Living in Oklahoma & creator of Underground Tree Studios
Dawn Tree, who was born in St. Louis, partially raised in North Carolina, moved to Tulsa as a youth, attending Jenks High School & graduating with a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma.
Tree is an American Folk Abstract artist as well as entrepreneur, running her creative marketing company Underground Tree Studios full time.
Tree has resided in Tulsa a little over a year now, after residing in Baltimore & DC for the last decade.
As a social activist and spiritual seeker Tree’s abstract creations often reflect nature, current disasters, the political climate and community with vivid depictions for a hopeful envisioned future. Her current scope of work is entitled, “The freQuency of Fear” and a running graphic series highlighting Black Wall Street : Truth modernized is also a focus.

A majority of her works are on wood, combining various mediums of paint & materials from aerosol, latex acrylic, water based acrylic, oil to vinyl records to create.
Pieces often provoke thought of community, humanity, spirituality and connections of present and past. They often use bright colors that contrast with each other; allowing you to interpret and see many perspectives within one. Someone once said to her, you really have to think about your work. Simple, but that’s genuinely the point. Thought.
