Statement from the Curator:
In the works of both Dawn Tree and Tai Tindall, abstract expressionism proves a particularly powerful approach to the pure, unfiltered articulation of simultaneously universal and intimately specific themes. Free from the constraints of realism, each artist connects deeply with energies that overflow, producing layered revelations with each drip and pour. In her “Frequency of Fear” series, Tree depicts the cycle of loss, equally informed by encounters with nature and acts of terror against Black bodies. “Holding Space” contributes to this year’s Tulsa Race Massacre centennial commemoration by visually engaging the broader conversation about Black joy, pain, and resilience across the continuum of time and space.
